Disney Fanatics

We've been busy, another Disneyland trip right before a delightful Thanksgiving got me behind on blogging. This was our last Disney trip for a while. Our passes expire this weekend and five trips in 18 months is more than enough for now. On the drive down, we discovered Tyler gets carsick. Shawn was driving like a maniac to get us through LA traffic and to the park by 11 a.m. (we left home at 4:30 a.m.) and I was reading Gavin's favorite new book, The Little Mermaid, to them when suddenly Tyler began coughing and yelling that he was sick. Poor child was green. Windows rolled down, Shawn's smoother shifting and no more reading in the car thankfully stopped him from actually barfing but now I know my son is not blessed with my ability to read in the car. Maybe that's why he always falls asleep when we drive more than 20 minutes somewhere.

Disney has a new Jedi Training Academy and Tyler volunteered to be a trained Jedi. An Obi-Wan Kanobe type taught about 20 kids to "activate" the light saber, attack one arm, attack the other arm, attack one leg, duck, other leg, over the head, and deactivate. This was great, a little instruction following is exactly what Tyler thrives in. But after 10 minutes of that, suddenly a space ship arose from the ground, Storm Troopers emerged, followed by Darth Vadar and Darth Mall. I pushed Shawn toward the front to grab Tyler who was ready to run away. But the lovely Disney staff read his body language and reassured him he'd be okay. I wasn't so sure. One by one, the kids got a turn to fight individually against the dark side. They kept asking Tyler if he was ready. He wasn't. So another kid would go. It got down to the final two kids and Tyler did it! He faced off against Darth Mall and oh my gosh we were so proud of him for overcoming Darth Mall's ugly presence and doing it. Of course, this was a spontaneous thing we stumbled across and we had left the camera on the stroller (only at Disneyland can you do that without worrying about it getting stolen). But he was so proud the rest of the day, every ride we went on, including Pirates of the Caribbean which he has always been scared of, he'd say "I can do this. I'm a Jedi."
