Tyler's First Birthday!!

We went in his bedroom singing Happy Birthday this morning. He was very surprised. He was thrilled to get a rock & roll motorcycle and even though he had only seen it in the store for less than five minutes, somehow he knew exactly what to do to make it rock. I can't believe a whole year has gone by. It doesn't feel like it has been that long, until when I look at him and see how much he's changed. From 8 pounds 10 oz. to 29 pounds 10 oz., three haircuts, four diaper sizes, and countless clothing sizes, Tyler has surpassed most growth charts. He went from a binky sucking helpless baby to a walking, talking, cup drinking boy so fast.

He's definitely getting over the RSV cold and pneumonia, as he's hardly coughing much at all. Shawn is home with him today and we go to the polmonology specialist this afternoon. We had planned on making a big deal about his birthday at daycare, but Daddy made him French toast for a birthday breakfast, and he gets to stay home and play with his new toy instead. He is great at taking his medicine. Especially grape flavored Tylenol. He can't get enough of that.

We went to the doctor's again this past weekend. They gave him a breathing treatment for his heavy wheezing and tested him for RSV. Last night we went back because he was positive for RSV. This is awful timing, since his birthday party is this weekend. They also took more chest xrays and determined he has pneumonia again. He's acting fine this morning but we're off to the pharmacy to get him better. This kid has had 4 xrays in his first year of life. Hopefully he won't need anymore ever.

I picked Tyler up from daycare yesterday and he was not wearing the clothes I sent him there in. In fact, between 8:00 and 5:00, he had gone through three shirts. Lunch was spaghetti which means bad news for the diaper fairy since he ate lasagna for dinner the previous night. Miss Andrea said he ate most of the food, and then started slurping the sauce off the remaining noodles. His sleeves were full of sauce.

Not sure where he picked this up, but now when he drinks from a cup, he takes a big last sip and lets the whole mouthful ooze all over his chin and drip all over his shirt. He used to drink normally. I have no idea where this habit came from but we need to break it fast. We are working on weaning him off the bottle and it is going better than I thought it would. The bottle right before bedtime has always been his favorite, but he is more open to giving that one up than the bottle before his nap. We are so lucky he's so flexible.

One of his favorite games to play is 'bulldozer' with mommy. We roll on top of each other just like bulldozers and steamrollers. He thinks this is a blast, and Mommy likes it because she can play it laying down. Tyler's great grandpa Obritz used to play this game with Mommy.

Tyler started talking this month. I'm behind here so let me catch up... He says "ba-ba" (bye bye) and waves so sweet. Usually when he waves "hi" he says "ba-ba" as well. He says "ma ma" whenever he's upset or needs anything. He says "da da" when his daddy walks in the room. And, I'm pretty sure he said "thank you" last night when I gave him his cup.

He started walking last weekend when we were in Truckee. We are so proud of him to have learned to walk before his first birthday. He prefers to walk in his forty-dollar shoes, which I can't blame him for. He has a silly laugh (hah hah), a giggle laugh (ghah ghah), and an evil, throaty laugh (het het), depending on what he's doing or what's being done to him. The dog definitely gets the giggle laugh out of him. Other kids get the evil laugh out of him.

We took him to get 1 year pictures done this weekend. He hated every minute of it but we managed to get some smiles out of him.
