I'm beginning to suspect Tyler has code words and phrases for things, not unlike the way Shawn and I spell out certain words like p-a-r-k. This morning, Tyler kept asking me why. Why do you curl your hair? Why is today a school day? Why do I have to wear a jacket? Why did you paint your toes. I was busy getting ready for work but not too busy to thoughtfully answer each of his questions. Then suddenly as I was explaining why Daddy slept at Papa's house (he had an early a.m. presentation in Rocklin), Tyler interrupted me saying "You must have taken a wrong turn at Bora Bora." Is that a code phrase for you must be crazy?

We had a lovely mother's day, or mutter's day as Tyler says. The boys made me waffles. On Friday, Tyler was too beside himself to wait to give me the card he made so we looked at that again. And Gavin made me the sweetest little flower pot with his footprint growing out of it. After breakfast, Tyler ran up and asked me why daddy was outside. I had no idea, it was raining, why would he be outside? But, when Tyler brought me some hand-picked flowers from the garden I figured that out. We met up with Gramma and Papa, Auntie Kristin and Great Gramma Roberts for an early supper. The boys were on good behavior for the most part (phew!) and so then we went to Papa Steve's apartment where they were not on such good behavior. Well, you can't win them all.
After saying goodbye to the Roberts, Gavin fell asleep on the drive home and Tyler suggested we stop for ice cream. Not one to deny my child of his urges, we went to Baskin Robbins where Shawn and I figured we could get away with the two of us each getting a cup of ice cream and sharing with the boys. Well, I got about four bites of my ice cream and four bites of Shawn's, the rest was the boys. Next time, they get their own cups. Isn't that what motherhood is all about? Sharing, learning and always finding ways to improve on the next time.
