See Tyler Grow

The little man has been wearing underwear for the past five days! Yesterday he woke up from his nap to pee and went right back to sleep. At school they all high-five each other when someone goes. That's encouragement! After an entire day of no accidents yesterday, he topped it all off by doing something I never thought I'd see (and now that I have, never want to see again), he pooped in the toilet! This is huge news! He sat down to pee (he prefers to sit facing the seat back on adult sized toilets, and to sit facing away from the seat back on kid sized toilets), pushed hard enough to get two squirts of pee out, told me he was done, got down and low and behold, there was a pile of poop there. I did a double take because it all was so unexpected and happened so fast. When I asked him if he did that, it was sincere because I wasn't convinced somebody previously may have forgotten to flush. But Tyler claimed it and I exploded with praise. Glorious praise. I pulled a nice stuffed Mickey Mouse stashed in the closet waiting for this very occassion out and Tyler was instantly attached. Then he reminded me of a promise I made him the day before when I told him he could go to a Kings game if he pooped. So hell yeah we're going to the Kings game tomorrow and if he poops again, we'll keep this party going! I knew he would do this himself on his own terms when he was ready. Thank goodness! Hurray Tyler!

This morning someone in our house, who shall remain nameless, broke wind as the British say. Tyler declared "Hey you farted! You don't fart in your pants. You should only fart in the bathtub." He was quite serious too.

I am so incredibly busy at work ('tis holiday season, ya know) I feel awful for not getting to blog recently. But this was the cutest thing so I have to quickly jot it down. Last night Tyler was quietly doing his monkey puzzle and he ran up to me. "Mama, what is in my ear?" he asked.

Fearful of his history of sticking peas and other small objects in his ear, I grabbed him and took a close look. "I don't see anything" I said, "what is it?"

"It's a sound," Tyler replied, "I hear a sound in my ear. Do you see it?" And so it occurred to me that Tyler's ears were ringing. So Daddy made the sound of a ringing ear and we asked if that's what he heard. He confirmed that's what it was.

On Saturday, UC Davis football beat Cal Poly! Shawn and I were talking about how incredibly good the team is this year. Tyler's new favorite thing is to butt in to our conversations with his innocent "Excuuuse me. Excuuuse me, Mama. What are you talking about?"

I replied "We are talking about UC Davis." To which, Tyler responded "Do I see Davis?" (get it--UC, IC, haha) we cracked up for a long time on that one. Maybe that story is best told instead of read but if I don't write it down I won't remember it. Keep checking back, I'll get caught up to my regular blogging soon!
